January 24 – 27, 2013 – The Team Makes the Trek to Thunder Bay!
After an awesome orientation weekend in November in Bemidji, MN, GSE team members decided the next planning meeting would be in Kathryn’s hometown of Thunder Bay. And the city that’s “Superior by Nature” didn’t disappoint!
We had a great welcome dinner at The Keg Steakhouse & Bar where we were joined by former GSE-ers and a few members of the Fort William Rotary Club, some of whom also graciously put us up for the night in their homes! (Thank you Ben, Solade, Dan & Sharon).
Bright and early Friday morning we feasted on Finnish pancakes at the Hoito, Thunder Bay’s famous Finnish restaurant, where we had the waitresses laughing and teaching us all kinds of useful Finn phrases…we hope. The team took a stroll around the Bay and Algoma District, aka the “Finnish Quarter” which has a number of neat Finnish and Scandinavian shops.
We spent the rest of the day doing some “GSE business,” had an amazing meal at Lot 66 Resto-Lounge and Wine Bar, and headed out to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park where we would spend the rest of the weekend. Time to get down to business!
We worked, we laughed, we bonded as a team. We stayed in great cabins right on the lake, and thankfully a brutal cold snap finally broke and we were able to enjoy some of the beautiful nature trails at Sleeping Giant. Gorgeous snowy scenery!
Now we’re all home and working hard on our “to-do” lists for the next meeting in March. We promise to keep everyone updated here on our blog, and also on our Facebook page. Be sure to “Like” us to stay in the loop!
